P90X2 – Ready, Set…Injury…Stop

Jan-Feb2013-P90X2January and February 2013 – P90X2, Injuries, Snow Days and London

Man, oh man…I started strong in January. I worked out 5 times each week and took 2 days to recover and stretch. The first week was brutal. After all the Christmas goodies I had allowed myself to indulge in…and I mean REALLY indulge in…I was not in my best shape. One P90X2 plyo workout would have me reaching for water and crawling to my bed at night. Week two was better, at least I could do more push-ups this week. Then week 3 felt amazing! I was doing push-ups with medicine balls and I could feel the difference. I felt stronger and more determined to do this right. Week 4 was my week to push beyond my regular amount of reps. I really pushed. If Tony was doing 20 sets, I was too…or in some cases more. Week 5 is the recovery week. Crazy, but I injured my sternum doing a yoga plow during this week. What are the chances??? Out of all weeks!!! I end up causing an injury during this week. I called my chiro, booked a massage therapy appointment and followed my chiro’s suggestion for stretching and healing this crazy injury. I pretty much injured the right side of my sternum. There’s a bit of cartilage that joins your ribs to it. That little sucker was painful. I could not raise my arms to shoulder level without any pain. So…lesson in life…injuries happen…but now it is time to get back to working out. February was a full of snow days, visiting a friend in London and taking time off to heal. Today is the last day of February and Winter has never looked prettier. I’m giving myself until tomorrow. Getting back on that saddle for sure.

Days 365 to 371 – And They Lived Happily Ever After

Days 365 to 371 – 5K’s, 2K’s, Yoga and Running to the Chapel to Get Married

This week was full of little last minute things to do before the wedding. This didn’t mean that I got to skip out exercising. My sister motivated me to go out running with her early in the mornings. It was nice because I got to A. Share some time with her, and B. Talk to her while exercising. I snuck a little meditation yoga at the end of the week for good measure.

During that whole week, I was more stressed out about forgeting something at home, making sure everyone had their hotel info and knew how to get to the church. The day of the wedding was amazing. My sister and I got up at 4am. Not because we set the alarm at that time, but because we just couldn’t sleep any more. It was more of an exciting feeling. We had a nice relaxing breakfast, took our time getting ready (she did my “Adele inspired” chignon bun), I did my make-up and slipped into the dress; which fit perfectly.

The weather was grey and cloudy most of the afternoon and we did have some rain, but that didn’t stop us. I actually adore the rain, so I was thinking “bring on the rain!!!”. I’m sure everyone else was running for cover 🙂 One thing I will always remember about my great grandma was that whenever somebody said “Oh no, it’s raining!”, she would smack them across the head and then said “Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean it’s not a beautiful day!” So true. It was the most beautiful fall day in all of October in my eyes.

I still haven’t taken my “after” pictures, but I will soon…very soon. I’m just a bit sicky poo right now.

This is not a complete goodbye, more of a see you later everyone.

I’ll post my “after” pictures and most likely keep coming back to blog once in a while to keep me motivated.

I don’t intend on doing a 365 days count down (in my case 371 days), just a journal entry whenever I need to share info, vent, or simply write down an experience.

For now, just enjoying being married to the man of my dreams.

Days 358 to 364 – Thanks!

Days 358 to 364 – Yoga, 5K and Power Yoga

Even when I force myself to go to sleep as early as possible I’m still not getting enough sleep…hence the yoga rescue. I needed more of a stretch and meditation yoga early in the week. I felt a bit calmer after it, especially with all the running around. Then the weather was so gorgeous that I couldn’t pass up a chance to go running outside. The Port Union Village Common Park was just perfect. The fall leaves were so beautiful. On purpose I ran to the pile of leaves. CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH! It put a smile on my face.

Saturday morning I went to Power Yoga at my gym. My instructor noticed I hadn’t been around in a while. He made sure to remind me. He came by after he saw me shaking like crazy trying to hold a pose. He smiled and said: “It’s harder coming back.” Thanks Connor! It’s ok, I’ll just add that to my “Things to be Thankful for” list. Thanksgiving this year is extra special because of the wedding. I’m so very thankful for my fiance, family, friends, my health, work, happiness, love, and the fact that by next week I’ll be a Mrs.

Days 307 to 357 – Where did September go?

Days 307 to 357 – Three Weeks Off, Weights, Bootcamp, 5K’s, CardioX, Cardio-Funk, Plyometrics, Yoga and Fitwall

I took three glorious weeks off because I wanted to. I decided not too let it bother me. So what I wasn’t going to the gym! I needed a little time off. My fiance thought something was wrong with me. He kept on reading motivational workout quotes to get me to go to the gym. Like a little 2 year old having a temper tantrum, I stormed out of the room shouting, “NO MORE MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES!!!”

I enjoyed my time off. Then on week 4 I decided to come back from my hibernation. I had a lot of cardio this month. I’m doing it on purpose to make sure I fit into that darn dress. Did I mention that my dress boutique ordered me one size smaller??? Yeap. Way to make me want to keep the weight off.

Here is my workout for all weeks:

Week 4: weights, bootcamp and 5K

Week 5: weights and more weights

Week 6: cardioX, 5K, cardio-funk and plyometrics

Week 7: weights, yoga and FitWall

I’m on my last leg of the 1 year workout…yippieee!!!

For some weird reason when I add it all up, the day before the wedding is “Day 369”. I must have counted my days wrong. Anyhow, you get the point. I started working out last year on exactly October 13, 2011. My goal of working out for a year to live healthier, become stronger and better is coming to a “wordpress end”. The next two weeks before the weeding are going to be nutso. I know this by the way my calendar already looks. Meetings here and there, flowers, cakes, last dress fitting/alterations, hair, etc, etc, etc. I think my workouts will become my de-stresser.

Days 250 to 285 – The Month I didn’t Write but Still Worked Out

Days 250 to 285 – Yoga, Bootcamp Sessions, Injuries, Healing Week, Weights, Running, Working Out with my Bro, Pump Classes and P90X

So I admit it…mea culpa! I haven’t touched my laptop in over a month. Why? Just plain lazy for writing this month. Hey, it happens to all writers…doesn’t it??? Oh well, it happened to me.

To sum up the last bit of June and some of my July, I had an amazing and challenging week 1. I went to a yoga session that was relaxing. Then Saturday morning I took my fiance to the Bootcamp class. I ended up injuring my iliotibial band (aka ITband). It hurt like hell! I didn’t pretend to be a superhero. I cheered him on to complete the last 20 minutes of the Bootcamp class while I waddled around. I went home after class and iced it for the rest of the night every 20 minutes for 10 minutes each time. I also looked up some stretches to do on youtube. Giving my body time to recover was key. I took week 2 off to let my body heal well. I was back on week 3 with weights and running. Week 4 was the first week in a llllllllllllllong time my lil’ bro had asked me to work out with him. I really was curious to see what this kid could do now that he’s all grown up. Week 5 was pretty much a mixture of Pump classes and P90X. I just exercised as much as I could with my hectic schedule. True story…I even tried exercising on days I was so tired from work I was nearly sleep walking. It’s happened two times already, I was so tired after I came home from work I changed into my gym clothing and fell asleep on my bed right after. I woke up at 10pm or 11pm in a panic because I knew I had dozed off.

I guess my new pyjama is my workout clothing now! 🙂

Days 209 to 215 – Happy Mother’s Day!

Days 209 to 215 – Cardio Kickboxing, Power Yoga and Relaxation Yoga

I wanted to try a cardio kickboxing class for a while now. Wednesday ended up working out perfectly. I got to the gym at 6:45pm and had enough time to get dressed and hydrate a bit. I wasn’t sure what equipment I needed. Turns out that if you want to use the punching bags, you MUST wear gloves…which I didn’t have…but I could still punch next to a punching bag and pretend I was punching the life out of it. No problem then! I was drenched in sweat after the first 20 minutes. At the end, I got all my frustrations out on that class, I did a great workout and had fun too. I’m on the hunt for some good boxing gloves now.

Saturday morning was my Power Yoga class. Now, I’ve done this class a kazillion times before. It’s always challenging, but for some reason it was even more challenging this time around. I know my instructor threw in a few new moves. I felt like they were more advanced. I could hardly hold some poses. My balance was off and my legs felt like jell-o. It was so tough that the next day (today) I felt like I had done a serious weight lifting session. I was achey all over. It must have been all those Chaturanga and hip (ardha chandrasana) poses, mixed in with the new poses that got me.

This Mother’s Day I thought about taking my mom out for a walk, but the day seemed to zoom by with all the family get togethers. We spent the morning together for breakfast. I rushed out to cook for my soon to be mother-in-law’s Mother’s Day celebration and came back to cook for my mami. I’ve been in the kitchen the majority of the day. Mercy! I needed a nice relaxing yoga session to end the day. I reached for yoga…not power yoga this time…just a relaxing one to ease me into a good night sleep. Now I’m all ready for bed and can’t wait to sleep like a champ.

Days 202 to 208 – Garage Sale Season

Days 202 to 208 – Yoga, 5K and a Walk in the Park

What a relaxing week! I did a super stress relieving yoga session. I was so relaxed that I fell asleep like a baby. Saturday morning started of with a healthy breakfast, followed by a nice 5K run around my place. I probably passed by at least 5 garage sales. I made sure to make a mental note of their locations. As soon as i got back home, I jumped in my car and headed for some shopping with extra coins in my purse. I scored some amazing finds. I got one gorg vintage cake stand, a serving plate, an old Canada Dry wooden crate and some retro pyrex bowls. Yippeee! I’m starting to collect all the items to help us decorate for our wedding. I have a vision and I know I can make it happen and stick to out budget at the same time. Today, with the weather being incredibly sunny and clear, we headed out for a day at the park. Walking with my other half and enjoying some quality time with our friends. We spotted baby geese by the water. So cute!
